Do you see flagpoles in front of homes or businesses? What does a flagpole cost? Where can I buy a flagpole? We can help you answer all the questions you have about flagpoles. Whether a flagpole is for your personal residence or your business, we can make the process less daunting. If you want to feel a little more prepared when contacting us about your flagpole, here are some things to consider.

Height of Flagpole

Residential: At a residence, there can be some restrictions. If you live in an HOA they typically have height restrictions. We most commonly see 20’ flagpoles as the limit. However, in most situations 20’ is the perfect height. If you have a single story or a shorter roof line, a 15’ flagpole might be a good height as well. Now, if you do not have any height restrictions, you could go as tall as 25’ or 30’. This is all dependent on how much land you have. If you need us to come do a sight visit, let us know.

Commercial: A commercial flagpole is typically at businesses, schools or government buildings. While these could be the same height as residential flagpoles, there are some other factors to consider. You don’t necessarily want the flagpole to tower over the building, but if the flagpole will be set away from the building, you might want to go slightly taller than the building. All commercial flagpoles are different sizes, but the most common sizes are 25’, 30’, or 35’ flagpoles. Before purchasing a commercial flagpole, make sure there are no height restrictions from the city and check to see if you need a permit. We can help with the permitting process.

Internal or External Halyard

Residential: Most commonly residential flagpoles will have an external halyard. This is when the rope is on the outside of the flagpole. Residential neighborhoods are normally safe and don’t have a ton of theft. When there is theft on flagpoles, the rope is usually cut and the flag gets stolen. This does not happen often, but we have seen it occur. Residential internal halyard flagpoles have a nice look to them, but it may not be necessary. We keep stock of external 15’, 20’, and some 25’ flagpoles. If you want an internal halyard flagpole, we may have to special order the pole.

Commercial: While we have a handful of external halyard commercial flagpoles, these are for temporary flagpoles or locations with gates. More often than not, commercial flagpoles are internal halyard because of the theft and vandalism threat. There are two types of internal halyard flagpoles, cam action cleat and winch based. We prefer the cam action cleat because you do not need a handle to raise and lower the flag which can easily be lost. And if the winch is damaged or broken, it can be costly to replace. Where the cam action cleat is easy to use and affordable to maintain.

Flagpole Color

There are four color options to choose from. We stock the most common, and the most affordable, satin. Clear anodized which is the satin with a clear coating on top to prevent corrosion and keeps the flagpole looking great for years to come. Bronze anodized which has more brown tones. And black anodized which looks great for homes or building with black accent colors.
