When it comes to flags, not all polyester is created equal. While polyester often brings to mind a tough, long-lasting fabric, there are actually different types that serve different purposes. Our American flags are made out of a 2-ply polyester, these flags are made in the USA and are very strong. However, our polyester custom flags are made overseas and are not as strong as our American made nylon or polyester flags. This import option allows for affordable custom flags to be made for any need. 

100 Denier Duplex Polyester Custom Flags

If you need a flag for a one-time event or short-term use, 100 denier duplex polyester is a great option. It’s perfect for occasions like concerts, tailgating, birthdays, fundraisers, or even as a funny gag gift. Because the fabric is lighter, it isn’t designed for long-term outdoor display. If flown 24/7, it will fray faster than more durable materials like 200 denier nylon.

With that said, its affordability makes it appealing if your flag will only see occasional use. Production is relatively quick too, with a turnaround time of just about 2 weeks after artwork approval. This material is imported, but the timeframe is similar to our American-made options.

Block Out Polyester Custom Flags

For those looking for a double-sided flag, block out polyester is a solid choice—especially for sizes up to 4’x6’. This material is designed as a single layer, printed correctly on both sides, which gives it a neat, professional look without the bulk of multiple layers. Smaller flags in block out polyester tend to hold up very well and resist fraying better than traditional double-sided styles.

However, block out polyester has its limitations. Once you get into larger flags (bigger than 4’x6’), the fabric doesn’t perform as well. Larger block out polyester flags can fray more quickly, making them less ideal for long-term outdoor use. For larger double-sided flags, the gold standard remains 200 denier nylon, which balances durability with a crisp finish.

Finding the Right Fit

Ultimately, the best custom flag material comes down to how and where you’ll be using it. If you’re planning a big one-time event, 100 denier duplex polyester is both affordable and eye-catching. If you need a double-sided flag for regular use and under 4’x6’, block out polyester will do the job beautifully. For larger or long-term outdoor flags, it’s worth upgrading to 200 denier nylon for the best performance.
